This qualification reflects the role of individuals who participate in a range of routine and predictable hospitality work activities. They work under close supervision and are given clear directions to complete tasks.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

  • Completion of Australian Year 10 or equivalent
  • English Proficiency Level of IELTS 5.0 or equivalent or a certificate of English in Intermediate Level (CEFR B1) from an Australian ELICOS provider.
  • Basic Digital Literacy (E.g. use of computer, browsers, MS Word)
  • Reasonable physical ability to undertake requirements of each unit in a training kitchen
  • Completion of an LLN test prior to commencement
  • Completion of PTR (Pre Training Review) form prior to enrolment
  • Valid Visa and study rights in Australia for the duration of the course

Blended learning and assessment:

Assessment includes practical components that would be undertaken in a training kitchen.
Training will be a mix of face to face and online with practical components in a training kitchen.
